Li Lanlan, who had toiled all her life, woke one morning to find herself back in the past. This was more agonising than death itself; the fruits of her labour, for which she had striven for most of her life, were simply gone!

Although to the truly fortunate, these possessions of hers were like the difference between a sesame seed and a watermelon—that watermelon on the distant horizon was far beyond her reach, yet these sesame seeds were something she could clasp tightly in her hand.

Losing them was, of course, agonising. After all, she had finally managed to build a decent life for herself, only to be flung back to the pre-Liberation era overnight.

She had never wanted to return to the past; it had been far too bitter. Yet now that she was truly back, she realised that the past held not only hardship, but also opportunity.

She had thought she had no regrets, but upon actually returning to the past, she realised that who among us is without regrets? It was merely the lack of a chance to make amends that had allowed her to deceive herself. Only upon truly returning did she discover just how many things she wished to set right—and thankfully, she still had the chance.
